Who we are
Tonic of the Woods is the sidegig of Maine writer Kay Stephens and her husband, carpenter and painter, Justin Stephens. Using natural forest materials, old books, wood, and repurposed items, they make fairy dresses, hand-crafted shadowboxes, and teensy literary sculptures and dioramas.
Items to jury
"Wee Folk" Fairy Dresses
As a Maine author, I’ve traveled to Ireland and Scotland multiple times in search of the origin stories of fairies a.k.a. “Wee Folk.” I make these fairy dresses by hand using natural materials such as birch bark, brambles, and flowers from the Maine woods and meadows. Each is a one-of-a-kind delicate art piece with a fairy name and original back story. (Click on each one to read the story.)
